About Ian

Ian is a business professional with over 35 years experience in public and private sectors. Ian has extensive experience working with mid- and senior-level management to develop an understanding of cost and performance issues and strategic opportunities. He has gained significant experience in many business areas including development of strategic direction and alternatives, activity based management, labour negotiations support and pension administration. Ian is equally at home on the shop floor observing productive processes and in a corporate office analysing data.

Background

Ian has experience in the consumer goods manufacturing, high technology and nuclear industries and in consumer lending and postal services. His experience spans design and development of complex costing and analytical systems and models to support top-down and bottom-up decision making, analysis of large and complex pay and financial systems, cost and performance management, activity based cost management, strategic analytics including support for the corporate planning process, labour negotiations support, corporate social responsibility, enterprise risk management, and drafting of both strategic and operational external reporting material.

Skill Set
Ian’s core capabilities include development of detailed modeling and analytics in support of strategic and tactical decision-making. He has established proficiencies in cost and performance management, process management and improvement, development of ground level cost drivers, risk analysis and corporate social responsibility benchmarking. He has designed implemented and managed major cost management systems in SAS ABM and other environments.

Education and Certifications
Ian has a BA (Geography) from Carleton University and a Bachelor of Education from Queen’s University. He is a past member of the CMA Association and has also attained several accounting and strategy based certificates including Canadian Risk Management (CRM) certification and the Pension Plan Administrators Certificate (PPAC).

Community Involvement
Ian has been involved for many years in local house league sports at all age levels, both in coaching and administrative roles. He has volunteered at several major music and sporting events in the Ottawa area.
